Østed has barely completed Willow Creek Wind in South Dakota before it is now preparing for the next major onshore wind project in the United States.
- The completion of Willow Creek Wind marks the end of another successful project in 2020, where everything has been kept within budget, time and safety, says Neil O’Donovan, Chief Operating Officer of Ørsted’s onshore wind business.
- The team behind it has delivered really strongly, especially given the impact that Covid-19 has had on the industry this year, says Neil O’Donovan.
Willow Creek Wind has a capacity of 103 MW, and Ørsted has now given the green light to its largest onshore wind project to date, Western Trail Wind, which will have a capacity of 367 MW when the farm is put into commercial operation in 2021.
Following the completion of Willow Creek Wind and the addition of Western Trail Wind, Ørsted now has 2.7 GW of onshore wind and solar in operation and under construction in the US, an increase of 2 GW over the last two years.
