600,000 private electricity customers at the energy company Norlys will now have their wish to be able to pay for their actual consumption - i.e. retrospectively. The company announced this in a press release.

Until now, customers have received a so-called on-account bill, where you pay for your consumption one or three months into the future. It is normal for energy companies to use on-account bills as a payment solution. Here, the company provides an estimate of the customers' future consumption. This is typically based on previous consumption and expected electricity prices.

- The energy crisis has resulted in significantly higher prices than we have been used to, says Mads Brøgger, director of Norlys' energy business, in the announcement.

- Therefore, the energy bill also takes up more of the household budget. This has led many of our customers to demand the option of settling their actual energy consumption. On the one hand, the individual household will be able to see their energy savings on the upcoming bill. Firstly, you only have to pay for one month at a time. Our customers should of course have that option, it says.

If you want to pay for your actual consumption, you can sign up for the payment solution on Norlys' website.

- We expect that the option of consumption settlement will also make electricity bills simpler and more transparent for customers who choose that solution, says Mads Brøgger.

Account billing has been talked about and criticized during the energy crisis, when prices have risen sharply. This has at times made it much more expensive to pay for three months of consumption in advance. In the past, this has led to large refunds to the energy companies' gas customers.

This happened because the companies had based the account bills on previously historically high gas prices, which suddenly fell in late autumn.
