Vineyard Wind, an 800 MW offshore wind project off the US east coast owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and Iberdrola, has won a US court case against GE Vernova. A Boston court has ordered the wind turbine manufacturer to continue deliveries, even though the company has tried to terminate the contract in a dispute over payments of $1 billion. This is reported by Recharge News.
The court ruled that GE Vernova cannot give effect to the termination and must continue work on the project. The dispute stems from a blade failure in 2024, which led to delays and additional costs. This caused Vineyard Wind to withhold payments of $360 million. dollar, while the project also estimates that the supplier owes up to 850 million dollars.
After the termination, Vineyard Wind chose to file a lawsuit, as the project is dependent on the turbines. The agreement between the parties has a total value of 1.2 billion dollars.
