STEVNS: In June 2022, European Energy applied to the Danish Energy Agency for permission to initiate feasibility studies prior to building a wind farm off Stevns Klint. Since then, Stevns Municipality has been in dialogue with European Energy about possibilities and wishes, and is now submitting a positive consultation response. The municipality states this in a statement.
- We have had a very thorough citizen involvement with meetings with special stakeholders, an open citizen meeting in Rødvig and a large questionnaire survey. In the questionnaire survey, approx. 2/3 that they were positive or very positive regarding offshore wind turbines to cover the increasing need for electricity, and therefore I am confident that we as the municipal council have made the right decision on behalf of the residents of Stevns to enter into a positive dialogue with European Energy, says Henning Urban Dam Nielsen (S), mayor of Stevns.
Since European Energy first approached Stevns Municipality, there has been a thorough dialogue between the parties. The dialogue has resulted in European adapting the project by making the area for the offshore wind turbines smaller, will build a maximum of 11-13 turbines with a height to the blade tip of 270 meters and at least 6.9 km from the nearest turbine to Højerup.
In addition, European Energy will use the Port of Rødvig as a service port, if it is competitive, and will give Stevns the opportunity for co-ownership through the utility company Stevns Energi.
However, European Energy cannot start the feasibility studies yet, and the plans are currently on hold by the Danish Energy Agency, due to the uncertainty about the open door scheme under which the permit for the wind farm has been applied for. The uncertainty lies in the fact that the granting of permits under the scheme may be in breach of EU law.
