The first wind turbine in the Thor Offshore Wind Farm has supplied electricity to the Danish electricity grid for the first time. This marks a milestone in the establishment of the 1.1 gigawatt offshore wind farm off the west coast of Jutland, where the installation of a total of 72 wind turbines continues. This was announced by RWE in a press release.
- Denmark's largest offshore wind farm has reached an important milestone in the green transition. Green electricity will literally flow in from the North Sea and out into the sockets of up to one million households when Thor is fully developed. I am of course proud that Energinet has helped build the infrastructure that will distribute the green electricity to Danish electricity consumers and to customers abroad. Congratulations to RWE on this great milestone and thank you for the excellent collaboration, says Kim Willerslev Jakobsen, Director of Energinet's System Responsibility.
The Thor Offshore Wind Farm is owned by RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%), while RWE is responsible for construction and operation. According to the project parties, work is progressing according to plan, and when the farm is fully operational in 2027, it is expected to be able to produce electricity equivalent to the consumption of more than one million Danish households. Danske Commodities A/S is responsible for route-to-market services for the electricity production on behalf of RWE.
- Denmark's largest offshore wind farm is now producing electricity and delivering electricity to the national grid for the first time. Reaching this milestone so soon after the installation of the first wind turbine demonstrates the extraordinary efforts of our project teams and partners, says Sven Utermöhlen, CEO of RWE Offshore Wind.
The project includes wind turbines with a capacity of up to 15 MW from Siemens Gamesa. When the park is fully developed in 2027, operations are also expected to create 50-60 local jobs at a new service building in Thorsminde, which will open in March 2026.
