Solar cells and wind turbines at Daugstrup on North Funen are being abandoned.

Nordfuns Municipality and European Energy are changing the plans for the large renewable energy project at Daugstrup-Lunde, which will be significantly reduced, so that work will only continue at Lunde in the future.

NORDFYNS: The plans for a renewable energy project at Daugstrup in Nordfyns Municipality are now being abandoned. This means that the project area at Daugstrup is completely removed from the overall renewable energy project in Daugstrup-Lunde. The work will therefore focus solely on the part of the project at Lunde, which involves the installation of approximately 112 hectares of solar cells.

The project at Daugstrup has included plans for a solar cell plant of approximately 50 hectares and the possibility of installing three or four wind turbines south of the city. However, after dialogue with Odense Airport, the project developer European Energy estimates that the establishment of the wind turbines will be a long and difficult process.

- The renewable energy project at Daugstrup-Lunde has been in development for a long time, and in collaboration with Nordfyns Municipality, an energy consultant and a citizens' group, we have adapted the two project areas on several parameters. Last year, we investigated the possibility of supplementing the project with 3 to 4 wind turbines south of Daugstrup. After dialogues with Odense Airport and a number of assessments internally and with our advisor, we have had to conclude that it will be a long and predictably difficult process to establish wind turbines south of Daugstrup. It is not in anyone's interest right now, neither the citizens nor the municipality, says Ian Wallentin, who is responsible for the project at European Energy.

Without the wind turbines, the project at Daugstrup no longer made sufficient sense overall, and therefore European Energy and Nordfuns Municipality have decided to abandon this part of the project and instead focus on the project area at Lunde.

- The green transition requires that we prioritize the projects that can actually be realized. With the adjustment that has now been made, we will have a project that provides better conditions for moving forward in the process and contributing to more renewable energy – in line with our goals in Green Steps, says Mette Landtved-Holm (V), mayor of Nordfunen Municipality.

Green Steps is Nordfunen Municipality's plan for the green transition, which will, among other things, increase the production of renewable energy and reduce CO2 emissions towards 2030.
