The wealth tax proposed by the Social Democrats is expected to divide the two participants in Sunday evening's TV 2 debate between prime ministerial candidates.
The chairwoman of the Social Democrats, Mette Frederiksen, is taking a swipe at Vestas CEO Henrik Andersen, who has said that he will leave Denmark if the tax is introduced.
- If I were the head of a company where so many people go to work every day, work hard for the company, and make a living from the company, I would not threaten to leave the country that has helped create that company, says Mette Frederiksen.
- Then I would probably say that with a salary of 32 million kroner, I can probably contribute a little more.
Henrik Andersen has said that he will not "swallow a wealth tax". He and several others, including the major business organizations, have criticized the wealth tax in strong terms. The simple version of the proposal is that the Social Democrats will tax assets over 25 million kroner by 0.5 percent.
V-chairman will not participate in shaming
V-chairman Troels Lund Poulsen goes straight to the meat of Mette Frederiksen in relation to the wealth tax. He believes that it would be "sad" to introduce such a tax.
- I am very sorry, and I also think that it is irresponsible that we are going the way that Mette Frederiksen has chosen, says Troels Lund Poulsen in the debate, which takes place in Storms Pakhus at the port of Odense.
The leader of the Liberal Party argues that the tax proposal from the Social Democrats is to "tax jobs" in Denmark. He believes that it affects entrepreneurship and the Danish economy, and it will weaken the foundation for necessary investments in defense and security. About the Prime Minister's call to Henrik Andersen, he says:
- I will not participate in any shaming of anyone.
