Europe is struggling with high prices, which require targeted initiatives, but the supply is secure, says Jørgensen.

Europe is in a "price crisis" when it comes to energy. But it is not a "supply crisis", and this dampens the need for far-reaching interventions. This is what EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing - Dan Jørgensen - says ahead of a meeting of EU energy ministers on Monday in Brussels.

- We are in a much better situation in the EU now than we were in 2022 (when Russia invaded Ukraine, ed.). This is because we have more renewable energy now. And we have diversified our supply in general, says Dan Jørgensen.

However, the high prices for gas in particular mean that the EU must look at "targeted initiatives" that can work in the short term, says Dan Jørgensen.

He does not want to go into detail about which initiatives are in question, ahead of the EU leaders gathering for a summit in Brussels on Thursday this week.

In addition, the EU will continue with the long-term transformation of energy supply, which is the theme of Monday's ministerial meeting in Brussels. That will ultimately be the decisive factor for the price level, says Dan Jørgensen.

- There are two things that can bring down energy prices. It is more renewable energy, as quickly as possible, so we must grant permits for its construction more quickly.

- And the second is a more interconnected energy market in the EU. The more interconnected we are and the more renewable energy we have, the lower the prices will be, says Dan Jørgensen.
