Although there are political ambitions that gas will be phased out as a source of heat in Danish homes by 2035, new gas boilers are still being installed. In 2025, 4,358 gas boilers were installed in Danish households, which corresponds to around 12 per day. This is stated by Gjensidige and NRGi in a press release.

The number is largely unchanged from the previous year, when 4,356 older gas boilers were replaced with new ones. The development is taking place in a period where gas prices have previously been stable, but where current international conditions have once again created uncertainty about both prices and supply.

- When you choose a new heating solution for your house, it is of course a decision that will have an impact for many years to come. Therefore, it is worth stopping and investigating the alternatives. If you want a climate-friendly solution and at the same time save money on your heating bill, district heating or a heat pump is often the obvious choice in many homes. And we must not forget that these solutions also help to make us less dependent on natural gas, says Bo Halm Andersen, energy consultant at NRGi.

However, there are also others who are looking towards other heating sources. In 2025, the total number of gas boilers fell by 22,000, so that today there are around 287,000 nationwide, according to figures from Evida.

If you are looking forward to a possible sale of your home and are also considering replacing your heating source, it is not the best idea to choose a gas boiler. A survey from YouGov indicates that only 1 percent prefer a gas boiler when buying a home, while around half prefer district heating, and 23 percent points to heat pumps.
