Søren Gade wants to use state-owned land for wind and solar energy

The state should make its own land available for wind turbines and solar cells to a greater extent to speed up the green transition. This is the opinion of Søren Gade, who is a parliamentary candidate for the Liberal Party in the West Jutland Greater Constituency. Among other things, he suggests that the state investigate the possibility of installing wind turbines in state forests and on other public lands. The proposal comes while the expansion of onshore wind in Denmark has almost come to a standstill, even though the Folketing decided in 2022 to quadruple the production of solar and wind energy on land towards 2030. This is reported by DR.

- It is time for the state to step in and take responsibility. Quite simply, no people live on these large state-owned areas, and giving them to the municipalities doesn't help either. They vote down some of the local wind farms anyway. So I think it's time for the state to step in and become a player in this area, says Søren Gade, who is a parliamentary candidate for the Liberal Party in the West Jutland Greater Constituency.

However, the proposal has met with criticism from several sides. Mads Fuglede from the Danish Democrats believes that state-owned areas are often protected natural areas where large energy plants do not belong. The Danish Nature Conservation Association shares the same opinion. According to the association, the state should instead take agricultural land out of use and use the areas for renewable energy. In return, the energy industry supports the proposal. Green Power Denmark points out that countries such as Finland, Sweden and Germany are already installing wind turbines in forest areas without major problems for nature. According to the organization, more options for locations may be necessary if the expansion of wind and solar is to be increased and energy prices are to be lowered.
