Dan Jørgensen promises major European agreement tomorrow

At the People's Meeting, Climate Minister Dan Jørgensen promises that a new European agreement for support for green projects will be signed tomorrow.
17. JUN 2021 12.08

When Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities Dan Jørgensen (S) was asked if he was ready to invest more money in green projects in the future, he smiled and replied:

- I can say that more money will come tomorrow, but I can't say much more, he replied with a secretive smile.

Nevertheless, Dan Jørgensen was able to say that this is a new European agreement that will enable EU member states to provide support for a number of selected sectors and projects.

- You could call it "EU goes China", says Dan Jørgensen, before stating that he cannot say more about the agreement, which is expected to be presented tomorrow.

This may therefore indicate that the EU will allow a form of state aid for, for example, projects for the green transition, which can therefore compete with state-supported Chinese projects.

The agreement also seems to follow on from the G7 summit, where the leaders of the G7 countries set out to create a Western project similar to the Chinese Silk Road project.

Praise to Bornholm

Before Dan Jørgensen had taken the main stage at the People's Assembly, he had, among other things, visited the Port of Rønne, which he praised along the way.

- The people at the Port of Rønne believed in offshore wind, and even though all sorts of consultants said that it would not be a good business, the Port of Rønne went ahead and is today the most suitable port in the Baltic Sea for shipping offshore wind turbines, says Dan Jørgen.

The words of praise received applause from the audience. At the Folkemødet, the Port of Rønne has, among other things, advertised itself with a sign in collaboration with Vattenfall, celebrating the installation of all the wind turbines at Kriegers Flak, which was recently completed.

In addition, Dan Jørgensen highlights Bornholm as a place full of optimism, skills and, not least, probably the world's first energy island.

- Denmark was one of the few European countries that was invited to Joe Biden's climate summit a few months ago. It is no coincidence, but precisely because of the energy islands, he says.

Green bunker hub and meeting point

Earlier this week, a new consortium consisting of a number of top Danish companies was presented. The new consortium is praised by Dan Jørgensen.

- We cannot manage the green transition without private companies. Conversely, they cannot manage without us, says the minister.

The Bornholm Bunker Hub project can, among other things, count on lots of green electricity from the offshore wind farms, just as Denmark, together with the Netherlands, has previously entered into an agreement to invest 750-1,000 million DKK in a large electrolysis plant in Denmark.

And according to Dan Jørgensen, the Danish players can now look forward to tomorrow, when there will be great green news.
