The Danish companies Bladt Industries and Semco Maritime have had an ongoing strategic collaboration since 2003, and now that collaboration has resulted in another contract, which will be the partners' 21st joint project.

The American energy company Dominion Energy Virginia has ordered three 880 MW offshore transformer stations from Bladt and Semco. The transformer stations will be used for the energy company's offshore wind project Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind, which will be the world's largest to date. The contract is Bladt and Semco's third offshore transformer station collaboration in the USA.

- We are proud that Dominion Energy has chosen Bladt and Semco for the world's largest offshore substation project to date, where together we have built up solid experience and unique competencies. We are pleased to have the opportunity to bring our experience to bear and contribute to building the American offshore wind industry, says Anders Søe-Jensen, CEO of Bladt Industries.

The tasks for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project include design, engineering, procurement, fabrication and installation work. Bladt Industries is responsible for the design, procurement and construction of the steel structure and jacket foundation, while the design, procurement and installation of electrical equipment, emergency systems and inter-array cables are handled by Semco Maritime.

The three substations are to be established in 2021-2025 and put into operation in 2026. The Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project will be established a little over 40 km from Virginia Beach and, with its capacity of 2.6 GW, can supply up to 660,000 households in Virginia.

- Bladt Industries and Semco Maritime are experienced market leaders in the development and design of offshore substations, which are essential for bringing clean renewable energy ashore and delivering it to our customers. In addition, it will create important jobs for our operations staff who provide essential service and maintenance services at substations, says Joshua Bennet, vice president offshore wind, Dominion Energy.

The project is expected to create up to 900 jobs in the local area during construction and up to 1,100 jobs when the wind farm is completed in 2026.
