The news from the Esbjerg company Viking Life-Saving Equipment (Viking) has been almost nothing but good in the past year.

The company has, among other things, delivered large profits and just about five months ago, CEO Henrik Uhd Christensen was able to announce that the company, which makes various survival equipment for ships and the offshore industry, had, through the acquisition of 20,000 square meters of land, secured the possibility of further growth in the area on Sæddingvej near Esbjerg, where the company has had its headquarters since 1965.

However, that news will be the last good news that Henrik Uhd Christensen could present to the world in his position as CEO of Viking. Today, January 17, he passed away after a short illness. Viking announced this in a brief press release on its website.

Over 30 years in Viking

Apart from founder Tage Sørensen, Henrik Uhd Christensen has perhaps been the person with the greatest influence on Viking's development into a company with a turnover of over three billion DKK and over 3,000 employees.

Henrik Uhd Christensen has been employed by Viking since 1992, where he was initially employed in export sales and was stationed in Hamburg. In 2000, he was appointed global sales and marketing director and moved back to Denmark. In 2010, he was appointed CEO, where he has since been at the head of a growing company.

The Viking management team, consisting of Gert Lillebæk, CFO and Vagn Pedersen, Sr. Vice President Regions will temporarily take over Henrik's responsibilities and tasks.

"Together with Group Management and the Board of Directors, they will manage VIKING Life-Saving Equipment in the coming difficult time," Viking writes in the statement, which is signed by Viking's Chairman of the Board, Jens Lindholm, Gert Lillebæk and
Vagn Pedersen. They state that the company has no further comments on the death.

Henrik Uhd Christensen was 54 years old and leaves behind a wife and two adult sons.
