US President Donald Trump said on Friday that the United States is considering scaling back its military operations in the Middle East. This was reported in a post on the president's own social media, Truth Social.

- We are getting very close to achieving our goals as we consider scaling back our major military effort in the Middle East with a view to the terrorist regime in Iran, Trump wrote.

In the post, he also listed the US's goals for its attack on Iran. They include "completely destroying" Iran's missile capabilities, destroying Iran's navy and air force, and never allowing Iran to come close to a nuclear weapons capability.

The AFP news agency writes that the post is the clearest sign yet from Trump that he may soon be ready to end the conflict. It has been going on since the US and Israel launched the first attacks on Iran on February 28.

The president shared the post on Truth Social shortly after he told reporters at the White House, according to AFP, that he was not looking for a ceasefire agreement.

- I think we won. I don't want a ceasefire. You know, you don't make a ceasefire when you literally wipe out the other side, Trump said.

In his post on Truth Social, Trump also writes that other countries must take responsibility for securing the shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, which has been effectively blocked by Iran. A fifth of the world's crude oil and liquefied natural gas normally pass through the strait.

- The Strait of Hormuz will need to be monitored and controlled as needed by the other countries that use it - the United States does not, he writes.

- If asked, we will assist these countries in their efforts in Hormuz, but that should not be necessary once the threat from Iran is eliminated.
