The energy company OK has raised the list price of diesel to 18.39 kroner per liter on Thursday. This is reported by TV 2, citing data from the company's website. The data goes back to 2002, and during that period the price has never been higher.

According to Drivkraft Danmark, the trade association for the country's fuel suppliers, this is actually the highest price for diesel ever. The list price is the official price of the petrol companies. The pump price that customers encounter at the gas stations may be different.

The price of diesel has - as has been the case for many other forms of energy - skyrocketed in the wake of the conflict in the Middle East.

Attacks on important energy infrastructure have caused several countries in the region to temporarily limit production of, for example, oil, and this has created uncertainty about supplies. In addition, the Strait of Hormuz has been closed by Iran. A large part of the world's oil must pass through the strait to be sent out into the world.

OK's diesel price most recently reached its highest level in 2022. Here the list price was 18.29 kroner for a liter. The company's website also lists gasoline prices. The list price of a liter of unleaded 95 is 16.89 kroner on Thursday. However, this is far from the latest peak in 2022, when the price reached as high as 19.49 kroner.

At that time, an energy crisis unfolded in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February of that year. Russia deliberately limited the flow of gas to the rest of Europe in connection with the war. This created a shortage and subsequently rising energy prices.
