The Trump administration is in talks with French energy company TotalEnergies to abandon two planned offshore wind farms in the United States as part of a possible settlement. According to the media outlet, the negotiations include the Attentive Energy and Carolina Long Bay projects, which have not yet been built and have been on hold since Donald Trump took office. The New York Times reports.
A possible settlement involves TotalEnergies receiving 928 million dollars in exchange for scrapping the projects and at the same time committing to accelerating investments in gas production in Texas. In December, the Trump administration slowed down a total of five offshore wind projects, citing environmental impacts, among other things, but a court has since rejected the reasons and given the green light to resume work.
Two of the affected projects belong to Ørsted. According to the media outlet Finans, delays, costs and write-downs have cost the company around 40 billion kroner. DKK. This weekend, Ørsted delivered electricity from Revolution Wind for the first time, after work on the project resumed earlier this year.
