SOLRØD: A sale of Solrød Biogas now ensures Solrød Municipality a solid financial gain of around 90 million DKK for the municipal treasury, after deducting debt and expenses, the municipality informs.

According to the municipality, the sale of the biogas company to Solrød Bioenergi, which is owned by the biogas company Bigadan, marks a natural step in the long-standing collaboration, where Solrød Bioenergi has been responsible for the operation of the plant since 2015.

In 2020, an unbreakable agreement was also made that Solrød Municipality will lease the plant to Solrød Bioenergi until 2040, and that Solrød Bioenergi has the right to the profit from the operation after deducting a so-called concession fee until 2040.

The sale was approved by a majority of the city council in December. The Social Democrats and the Liberal Party voted against.

Not a core task

The transaction secures finances for future local investments and at the same time leaves the operation and development of the plant to an experienced player in green energy, according to the municipality.

Mayor Emil Blücher is pleased that the transaction has now been completed and that the biogas plant will continue as before.

- It is not a core municipal task to run an energy business, and the sale of Solrød Biogas is a really good deal for Solrød Municipality and for the citizens - both in terms of resources and finances, he says and continues:

- It has not yet been decided how the money from the sale will be used, but in the city council we will now have the opportunity to invest the money locally. This can be for initiatives such as establishing a green fund or investing in maintenance of the municipality's buildings, roads and paths.

Solrød Bioenergi will continue operations unchanged, with all central agreements remaining unchanged.

In addition to Solrød Bioenergi, Bigadan owns eight other biogas plants in Denmark.
