US President Donald Trump is asking countries that receive oil through the Strait of Hormuz to help secure the important route.
- The United States has beaten and completely crushed Iran militarily, economically and in every other way, Trump writes.
- But the countries of the world that receive oil through the Strait of Hormuz must take care of that passage, it continues.
Trump writes in his post that the United States will "help A LOT" and will coordinate with other countries.
- This should have been a joint effort all along, and now it will be. It will bring the world together in harmony, security and lasting peace, according to the US president.
In a post earlier Saturday, Trump wrote that other countries will send warships to the Strait of Hormuz to help the US secure oil traffic.
- Many countries, especially those affected by Iran's attempt to close the Strait of Hormuz, are sending warships to help the US keep the Strait open and safe, Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The president further wrote that he hopes that China, France, Japan, South Korea, the UK and others will send ships to the area.
- In the meantime, the US will bomb the coastline and continuously shoot Iranian boats and ships out of the water, it was said earlier Saturday.
- One way or another, we will soon make the Strait of Hormuz open, safe and free.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request from Reuters news agency, on whether any countries have agreed to send ships.
Since the US and Israel began attacking Iran two weeks ago, the Iranians have threatened and attacked shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. This has caused the price of oil to increase significantly by around 40 percent. This is because around a fifth of the world's oil production is transported through this strait.
Iran has also attacked oil facilities in the rest of the Middle East, among other places.
After talks with the other G7 countries, French President Emmanuel Macron announced earlier this week that the seven industrialized countries are preparing for a naval mission to secure oil tankers and cargo ships through the strait.
On Friday, Trump told reporters that US warships will "soon" begin escorting oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.
