A little piece of Danish history is one step closer. Thus, until and including December 1, 2023, it is possible to submit comments and ask questions about the Danish environmental impact report for the development of the Ravn field in the Danish part of the North Sea to the Danish Energy Agency.
The operator Wintershall Nordzee B.V. is applying for a permit to develop the Ravn field. This is the first time that an oil and gas field will be fully decommissioned in Denmark, the Danish Energy Agency said in a press release.
"The decommissioning of the Ravn field will be the first full decommissioning of an oil and gas field in Danish history. The Danish Energy Agency may require the licensee to remove facilities, etc., that the state does not wish to take over after the end of its use. Denmark has also committed to removing facilities established in the North Sea for the extraction and transport of oil and gas. This means that the platform and associated installations must be dismantled and removed to be transported ashore for scrapping or recycling," the announcement reads.
The Ravn platform and associated installations were built in 2015 and are located within licences 5/06 and 2/16 on the Danish continental shelf approximately 245 km from the Danish coast and approximately 15 km from the German border. The Ravn platform is connected to two pipelines and a supply line, which are connected to the A6-A platform in the German sector.
There are two suspended production wells connected to the Ravn platform, which are no longer producing. The company has applied for permission to permanently close the Ravn wells, and the closure is subject to an independent environmental assessment. The two Ravn wells will have to be closed prior to the decommissioning of the Ravn platform.
