The working group behind Gesten Fællesvarme has temporarily put the work on the district heating project on hold. The decision comes after more than two years of work, during which economic, technical and political challenges have made it unrealistic to implement the project under the current conditions. This is reported by Jydske Vestkysten.
According to the group, various solutions they have investigated have all proven to be unsustainable, which has sent them back to the start. The main reason why the project is now suspended is that the requirements for connection have been tightened. A minimum of 70 percent of households must be connected, and at least 80 percent must be connected to district heating within five years of start-up - a goal that the working group considers unrealistic.
The working group emphasizes that the project is not finished, and that they hope for better times for district heating in Gesten.
