Together with a large number of local and national players, the government will make Funen a business lighthouse for the development of robots and drones of the future, the Ministry of Business and Industry informs.

Central to the business lighthouse is the establishment of a new Large Structure Production (LSP) center at the Port of Odense, which will be the first in the world to pave the way for the development of completely new robotic solutions that can automate the production of large structures such as wind turbines, ships and buildings.

The prospects are great, as the center can contribute to maintaining the leading position of Denmark's wind industry and supporting more industrial production and jobs in Denmark, the ministry says.

In addition, heavy investments are being made in new test and development infrastructure in H.C. Andersen Airport, which will help the Funen drone environment develop its international potential as an epicenter for new innovative drone technologies.

And then the favorable physical conditions in the South Funen Archipelago will be utilized with a view to testing and developing the green maritime solutions of the future, so that we have a more sustainable international shipping.

- The agreement is important for Funen, and for Denmark. Denmark is facing significant challenges, where robots and autonomous technologies are a prerequisite for delivering the necessary solutions, e.g. within green transition, defense and an independent energy supply. Funen has created a Danish position of strength with a world-class innovative robotics industry, and with this broad partnership we have given a handshake on a long-term commitment and close cooperation to further develop and strengthen it, says Nyborg Mayor Kenneth Muhs (V), chairman of Erhvervshus Fyn, and representative in the partnership.

  • The government has allocated a total of 1 billion kroner to develop the eight local business lighthouses.
  • The business lighthouses are based on recommendations from the government's regional growth teams and, based on local business strengths, will contribute to cultivating new Danish positions of strength within, among other things, green energy, Power-to-X, CO2 capture, biosolutions and robotics.
  • With the partnerships, the government goes a step further and commits to developing the business lighthouse through a number of different initiatives.
