A Vietnamese oil tanker has been detained in the Port of Skagen for over two weeks because, according to the Danish Maritime Authority, it is in too poor a condition to sail further. The 243-meter-long oil tanker Vigo was detained on September 20 and will only be allowed to sail once necessary repairs have been completed. This is the second time in a few months that the ship, which sails under the Vietnamese flag, has been detained in Skagen. This is reported by TV2 Nord.

According to Danwatch, Vigo was first detained on April 22, after the maritime authorities found extensive defects in, among other things, fire and safety equipment, outdated charts, technical failures and defective toilet facilities. In August, the ship was given permission to sail to a shipyard in Vietnam, but never arrived. After an accident, the oil tanker lay for several weeks off Hirtshals before being towed back to Skagen by several tugboats.

According to Danwatch, the ship appears on Lloyd's List of oil tankers associated with the Russian shadow fleet, but the Danish Maritime Authority states that Vigo is not included in the EU's sanctions list. According to the Danish Maritime Authority, the repair of the ship's engine bearings can take up to three weeks.
