A new and more robust electricity grid will future-proof the power supply across South Zealand, Lolland and Falster. The project, which has been approved as the last of three acceleration areas in a political agreement from 2024, will ensure capacity and stability in line with the expansion of solar and wind energy. The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities writes in a statement.

The new 400 kV connection will extend from Ringsbjerg south of Køge to Eskilstrup on Nordfalster and Nørre Radsted on Lolland. The project is part of the government and several parties' agreement on faster and more efficient expansion of the electricity grid and has a budget of DKK 5 billion.

- In continuation of the broad political agreement we entered into last year, the green light has now been given to a more robust electricity grid, which is imperative because green electricity from solar and wind is growing day by day. The project contributes to the common political desire for a faster and more efficient expansion of the electricity grid. The Climate, Energy and Utilities Committee has been presented with the project and has had no comments, and I have therefore approved the project. Because investments must be made now if we want to ensure security for both consumers and businesses. This is green action that works, says Lars Aagaard, Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities.

With the ministry's approval, Energinet expects to start construction work on the project in 2028, and the grid is expected to be ready in 2033. A maximum of 30 percent of the section can be buried, depending on technical assessments. Energinet is in ongoing dialogue with citizens and municipalities about the route.
