Billion-dollar hydrogen pipeline raises concerns

Energinet is having difficulty calculating the socio-economic costs of establishing the hydrogen pipeline to Germany, known as the 7-tall, writes Ingeniøren.dk. "Energinet's analyses show that establishing the 7-tall could provide a socio-economic net present value gain of between -6.1 and 18.3 billion DKK over 30 years," reads the business case that forms the basis for approving the state's co-financing.

The analysis also points out that the immature hydrogen market makes the pipeline dependent on state operating subsidies of up to 10.6 billion DKK, although the amount may vary. The construction budget is set at 6.9 billion DKK. DKK. And that worries Peter Kjær Kruse-Andersen, associate professor of climate and environmental economics at the Department of Economics:

"I am generally quite concerned about this project, as there is a significant risk that hydrogen will not play such a central role in the green transition as previously believed," he writes in a written response to the media.
