AARHUS: Aarhus Municipality is the first in the country to use a new type of lightweight solar cells that only weigh five kilograms per square meter, equivalent to a third of the weight of ordinary panels. "This gives us the opportunity to install solar cells on some roof surfaces that we have not previously been able to get approved for solar cells," says project manager Knud Jensen from Aarhus Municipality's Climate Society to DR.
The municipality has a goal of 71,000 square meters of solar cells in schools, nursing homes and sports halls by 2029, but so far only 15,000 square meters have been put into use. That's why Knud Jensen sees the new French-produced solar cells as a breakthrough that makes it easier for the municipality to achieve its goals.
There is also great interest in Randers. "It would make things much better if we could get some lighter and simpler solutions to put on our roofs," says Director of Development, Environment and Technology, Jens Heslop. Randers Municipality wants to be CO2-neutral by 2045.
