Nine out of ten newly registered private cars in September run on electricity

Not many fossil fuel cars are sold in Denmark anymore. The tax system is crucial, says the trade association.

Month after month, the green transition of the Danish car fleet is setting records, and this was also the case in September. Here, 73.4 percent of all newly registered cars were electric, and if you look exclusively at the private market, the share is over 90 percent.

This pleases Mads Rørvig, CEO of the industry association Mobility Denmark.

- This is not only a positive development for the industry, but also a key to reducing CO2 emissions in Denmark. Therefore, it is naturally a development that we should maintain, he says.

However, Rørvig fears that the unresolved situation regarding car taxes from the new year could mean that sales of electric cars will go the other way.

The starting point is that electric cars will be subject to higher taxes from the new year, but negotiations are underway at Christiansborg about the possibility of continuing the current favoritism of electric cars.

Mads Rørvig refers to Sweden, where changed taxes have meant that electric car sales only account for 35 percent.
