VORDINGBORG / NÆSTVED / FAX: Mikael Smed (S), mayor of Vordingborg Municipality, joins the ranks of mayors who criticize the plans for 44-meter-high electricity pylons that will stretch 47 kilometers between Vordingborg and Køge. As the plan stands, 14 kilometers of the cables will be buried, while the rest will be led in the tall electricity pylons.
The mayor of Vordingborg has, like Næstved, written to the Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard (M). He calls for the cables to be buried along the entire line.
- The large pylons do not exactly decorate the landscape. By burying the cables, we can reduce the inconvenience for many people and for nature all the way from Køge to Vordingborg. I hope that the minister will be responsive to this, says Mikael Smed in a press release.
Two letters and a joint statement
On September 15, the entire Næstved City Council also sent a letter to the minister, expressing their concern about the project's consequences for the municipality's nature. They write, among other things:
"The project will cause irreparable damage to some of Denmark's most valuable natural and cultural environments. It must be of both national and international interest to preserve the beautiful landscape around Præstø Fjord."
Faxe Municipality already sent a letter to the minister this summer with "a strong request" to look into the matter again. They have recently hired a lawyer to oversee the decision-making process. The municipality has not yet received a response from the minister as of September 25.
The mayor of Faxe, Ole Vive (V) has also signed a joint statement sent to 12 mayors in Zealand from the citizens' association "Luftledninger Nej Tak - Jordkabler Ja Tak".
- It has always been my and the city council's position that everything that can be buried should be buried, he says.
In a written response to DR, the minister writes:
"I have great understanding that overhead lines can be a nuisance, and all cables that can be laid in the ground should be laid in the ground. I know that that Energinet is now engaged in a thorough dialogue with local communities about the specific route and how considerations for nature, citizen inconvenience and technical conditions can best be reconciled. I wholeheartedly support this dialogue."
