Mayors protest against electricity pylons in South Zealand

The prospect of tall electricity pylons in a natural area has now also prompted Næstved to write a letter of protest to the minister. Faxe Municipality is still awaiting a response to its request this summer.

NÆSTVED / FAXE: The plans for a new high-voltage line with masts up to 44 meters high between Vordingborg and Køge in South Zealand have prompted a joint Næstved City Council to write to the Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard (M), writes DR. In the letter the city council points out "fatal inadequacies" in the project.

Already this summer, Faxe Municipality sent a letter to the minister with a "strong request" to look into the matter again, and most recently, the municipality has hired a lawyer to review the decision-making process. "We have not received any response from the minister, so we will continue to put pressure on," says Dorthe Egede Borg (V) chairman of the technical and environmental committee in Faxe to the channel.

Faxe mayor Ole Vive (V) has also signed a joint statement sent to 12 Zealand mayors from the civic association "Luftledninger Nej Tak - Jordkabler Ja Tak", he confirms to Sjællandske Nyheder.

- It has always been my and the city council's position that everything that can be buried should be buried, says Ole Vive.

Most of the 47 km in Energinet's project is planned as an overhead line. According to the newspaper, Energinet has previously denied that it would be technically and economically viable to lay cables along the entire route.

The Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities writes in a response to DR that all cables that can be laid underground must be laid underground. "I know that Energinet is now engaged in a thorough dialogue with local communities about the specific route and how considerations for nature, citizen inconvenience and technical conditions can best be reconciled. I wholeheartedly support that dialogue," writes Lars Aagaard.
