SEALAND: Lower consumption of district heating and greener district heating production have halved Region Zealand's CO2 emissions from energy in a single year.
The region writes this in a press release.
However, regional council chair Trine Birk Andersen (S) is not satisfied yet and maintains that the region is still far from the goal:
- We must take the big steps from a central level, such as tendering and purchasing with a focus on reduced and greener consumption, energy renovation and prevention. At the same time, we must take the many small steps. Here we all have a responsibility and an opportunity to contribute, she says.
Overall, the region's total emissions have decreased by eight percent from 2023 to 2024, even though energy activity has increased.
The reduction in energy emissions is mainly due to an approximately 20 percent lower consumption of district heating, and that district heating is increasingly produced with a lower CO2 footprint, the region informs. Electricity consumption is largely unchanged, but through the purchase of green certificates, CO2 emissions from electricity are compensated by 83 percent.
