Denmark's path towards the 2030 climate target is on the right track, the government's Climate Programme 2025 shows.

However, the Confederation of Danish Industry stresses that the pace of implementation must be significantly increased if companies are to be able to accelerate the transition towards climate neutrality in 2045. According to DI, climate efforts are closely linked to both competitiveness and security policy.

Although the political targets have been set, DI points to the need to translate the decisions into concrete results.

-  This applies to delays in the expansion of the electricity grid, lengthy authority processes and the tax exemption for pipeline biogas, which are currently slowing down the transition for many Danish companies, says Anne Højer Simonsen, climate manager at DI.

Concrete instruments

When Denmark determines its new climate target for 2035, DI emphasizes that it is crucial that the targets are linked to concrete instruments and financing.

Companies must be able to plan and invest with confidence that the political conditions will not change if the pace of the green transition is to be maintained.

- Only with clear and stable frameworks for instruments and financing can we ensure that we reach our 2035 goals and maintain the pace of the green transition, says the climate manager.

DI also sees opportunities for Danish leadership in global climate efforts, including through the EU's climate law and COP30 under the Danish EU presidency.

According to Anne Højer Simonsen, it is crucial that Denmark and the EU stand firm, as this strengthens both European competitiveness, security of supply and Danish companies' opportunities to deliver green solutions.
