The Speaker of the Danish Parliament, Søren Gade (V), has resigned from his position as chairman of the board of directors of the company Tecleaf, which produces solar cells for military use, in the wake of criticism about incorrect information given to the Folketing. This is reported by Ekstra Bladet on Sunday.

According to the newspaper, Gade sold his ownership stake in the company on August 12 this year, and he officially left the board on July 30. The media outlet writes this after looking up Gade in the CVR register.

In May, it emerged that Søren Gade had given incorrect information about his board work in the company to the Folketing. Back in December 2022, he explained to the Committee on the Rules of Procedure that he had resigned from an unpaid position as chairman of the board of directors of the company Tecleaf, but that was wrong.

The company was in liquidation, and that was the reason why Søren Gade retained the position as chairman of the board despite having said the opposite, was the explanation from Gade in May.

- This must be seen in the light of the fact that the company is in liquidation, and that I attach importance to being involved until the company is completely liquidated, in order to answer to everyone, Søren Gade wrote in a letter to the Committee on the Rules of Procedure of the Danish Parliament.

Criticism for double roles

This followed the fact that TV 2 had focused on Søren Gade's role as both chairman of the Danish Parliament and paid chairman of the board of directors of the Port of Esbjerg for a long period of time.

Gade has been criticized for, that the two chairman roles could cast doubt on his competence, as the Port of Esbjerg was in play to become the place where billion-dollar warships were to be built.

For Søren Gade it was important to "establish that as chairman of the Port of Esbjerg one neither has nor will have influence on decisions about where warships are built", he said.

In his defense, Søren Gade has repeatedly emphasized that he had been approved for the dual role as chairman of the Port of Esbjerg by the Danish Parliament's Rules of Procedure Committee. However, the committee had not approved the role in Tecleaf.

In May, a majority in the Danish Parliament's Rules of Procedure Committee reaffirmed that Søren Gade can continue to be the chairman of the Parliament and chairman of the board of directors of the Port of Esbjerg.

Since 2012 - and so until this summer - Søren Gade has owned 25 percent of Tecleaf through his company SGJ Holstebro, writes Ekstra Bladet. The original owners must now consider the future of the company, writes Søren Gade in a text message to Ekstra Bladet.

- I have transferred my share of the company to one of the other original owners, who is considering the future of the company, the text message reads.
