A Polish court has decided to extend the custody of the Ukrainian diver, who goes by the name Volodymyr Z., by 40 days. He is wanted by Germany, which suspects him of being involved in the explosions against the Nord Stream gas pipeline in 2022. Reuters.

Volodymyr Z. was arrested near Warsaw last week and has been in custody since. The court in Warsaw has now extended the detention while it considers whether he should be transferred to Germany. A court spokesman said he will remain in prison until November 9, but the prosecution wanted more.

- The court rejected the prosecution's request for 100 days of pre-trial detention and instead decided on 40 days, says Tymoteusz Paprocki, a lawyer for Volodymyr Z.

According to the German authorities, Volodymyr Z. belonged to a group that rented a boat and placed explosives at the gas pipeline near Bornholm in September 2022. He is charged with conspiring to carry out an explosive attack and with anti-constitutional sabotage. Volodymyr Z. denies any wrongdoing. Another Ukrainian man suspected of coordinating the attack was arrested in Italy in August. He has announced that he will oppose extradition to Germany.
