The conciliation group behind the defense settlement has, together with Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen, agreed to initiate negotiations with the consortium Danske Flådestøtteskibe K/S on the delivery of four new marine environment and mine-laying vessels. The vessels are to be included as a central part of the fleet plan from spring 2025. This is stated by the Ministry of Defense.

The new vessels are to replace the current, worn-out marine environment vessels and contribute to strengthening Denmark's ability to handle oil and chemical spills and to carry out military tasks such as surveillance, training and mine-laying.

– With four new marine environment and mine-laying vessels, we are strengthening both marine environmental preparedness and sovereignty enforcement in Danish waters. The threats we face at sea today are different and far more serious than just a few years ago. With this decision, we not only strengthen our ability to act more effectively in the marine environment, but also the overall combat power of the Danish Armed Forces, says Troels Lund Poulsen, Minister of Defense.

The choice of Danske Flådestøtteskibe K/S – a consortium consisting of OSK Design A/S, Hvide Sande Shipyard A/S and Karstensens Skibsværft A/S – follows the political ambition from the Partial Agreement on a Fleet Plan that the ships will be built in Denmark. The contract is expected to be signed before the end of 2025, if the parties reach agreement on the final terms.
