The Danish Unity Party: Søren Gade casts doubt on the position of Speaker of the Danish Parliament

The Danish Unity Party's Peder Hvelplund has received incorrect information from Gade about a board position, and this is causing anger.

Søren Gade is "smearing the office" as Speaker of the Folketing when new information repeatedly comes to light about his dual role as a board member. This is according to Peder Hvelplund from the Unity List. He sits on the Folketing's Rules of Procedure Committee and is thus among those who have been given incorrect information by Søren Gade.

- It does not strengthen confidence in his judgment, he says.

On Tuesday evening, Gade stated in a letter to the committee that he had given the Folketing incorrect information about a board position. Back in December 2022, Søren Gade explained that he had resigned from the position as chairman of the board of the company Tecleaf. That was wrong.

- However, I must inform you that I have continued to serve, writes Søren Gade now.

The company has not had any activity since 2022 and is in liquidation, and according to Søren Gade, this is the reason why he has retained the position as chairman of the board.

Inactive company is a mitigating circumstance

For Peder Hvelplund, the mitigating factor is that the company is not active. But it paints a critical picture of Søren Gade's work and judgment, he believes.

- Added to all the other cases, a picture has been painted of a Speaker of the Folketing who is unable to have a sound judgment to protect the honorable office, which is to be Speaker of the Folketing, he says and continues:

- He should clearly signal that he has no other interests than to take care of the Folketing.

Criticized for chairmanship of Esbjerg Port

The development comes after a long period of criticism of Søren Gade's role as chairman of the board of Esbjerg Port, while he is also Speaker of the Folketing. Here, the dual chairman has been criticized for the fact that the two roles could cast doubt on Søren Gade's competence.

Specifically, the Port of Esbjerg is at a potentially important time, when Denmark's major armament and shipbuilding could benefit the port.

In his defense, Søren Gade has repeatedly emphasized that he had been approved for the dual role by the Folketing's Committee on Rules of Procedure. Now, however, the letter adds a new chapter to the case - the committee has not approved this role.

Søren Gade had no further comments on Tuesday evening.
