ODENSE: Russian natural gas ships have called at the Port of Odense nine times since Russia's invasion of Ukraine to have services carried out at Fayard's shipyard. The service work is not covered by EU sanctions, and Fayard states that the yard does not pursue foreign policy. Odense Municipality, which owns the Port of Odense, cannot prohibit the call, as in that case it would be liable to compensate Fayard for lost profits. In addition, the port has a duty to accept legal ships. However, the municipality wants to put an end to the Russian arrivals. That is why mayor Peter Rahbæk Juel (S) has asked the minister to do something about the matter, writes the harbor director-non-stop" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fyens Stiftstidende.
- I have chosen to write to the Minister of Transport (Thomas Danielsen (V), ed.) to have the list of sanctions expanded. We were made aware at the briefing that, in connection with the EU's sanctions package 14, a list of named vessels has been drawn up which are obviously acting in Russia's interests, even if they are flying a different flag, says the mayor.
According to Peter Rahbæk Juel, an extended list will mean that it will be possible for both companies and the port to refuse Russian ships docking in the Port of Odense.
