AARHUS: In connection with the planned port expansion, the Port of Aarhus has dropped plans to dump, i.e. dump, 1.8 million cubic meters of seabed off Fløjstrup Strand south of Aarhus, writes TV2 Østjylland.
The expansion of the Port of Aarhus will make it 100 hectares, equivalent to one square kilometer, larger and extend it into Aarhus Bay. The Danish Environmental Protection Agency was supposed to process the port's application for permission for the dumping, but according to the channel's access to documents, Aarhus City Council already asked the Danish Environmental Protection Agency to pause the case processing in September. This is confirmed by CEO of the Port of Aarhus Thomas Haber Borch:
- In connection with the application for the Outer Harbor, several citizens have expressed concerns about dumping. Therefore, we have worked purposefully to reduce the amount that needs to be dumped. At the same time, we have initiated studies of alternatives to dumping, which are currently ongoing. In this connection, we have put the original application on hold, he says.
