AARHUS: In connection with an upcoming port expansion, the Port of Aarhus has now found an alternative location to dump dredged harbor mud instead of a previously criticized location at Fløjstrup Strand south of the city, writes Aarhus Stiftstidende.

The Port of Aarhus has screened six new positions approximately halfway between Øer Strand on Mols and Sjællands Odde. In collaboration with consultants and the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, the port has come to a location that is considered suitable for dumping - namely the area called Yderflak 2. It is an area of 0.9 square kilometers with a water depth of 21-26.5 meters.

- We have come a long way from the original 4.9 million cubic meters to now a maximum of 400,000 cubic meters, which the parties behind the political agreement on the port expansion have demanded. However, we are still working to reduce the amount that needs to be dumped further - and we are following developments in the area very closely, says Kim Meilstrup, Head of Infrastructure at the Port of Aarhus.
