The windmill blades at the famous Moulin Rouge cabaret on Boulevard de Clichy in Paris are spinning again. Hundreds turned out late Thursday to once again see the blades in motion on the red windmill that sits on the roof of the Parisian entertainment venue. Outside the Moulin Rouge, people were greeted by dancers who marked the occasion by performing the characteristic can-can dance. Fireworks were also set off.
It has been 14 months since the blades collapsed and fell to the ground - in April 2024. New blades were already installed on the windmill in July 2024, in time for the Olympics. But it has taken a year to get the windmill's electric motor running again. The collapse has been attributed to a technical fault. No one was injured in the incident. Moulin Rouge means "red mill" in Danish.
- The wings have always turned at the Moulin Rouge, so we had to recreate this Parisian symbol for the sake of both Paris and France, says Jean-Victor Clerico, who is the CEO of the Moulin Rouge.
