US President Donald Trump calls the effect of the US import tariffs "beautiful". He does so in a post on his social media, Truth Social. With the import tariffs, Trump wants to eliminate the US's large trade deficit with China and the EU, among others.

- The only way to cure this problem is with tariffs, which bring billions of dollars to the US. They have already come into effect, and it is a beautiful thing to look at, Trump writes on Truth Social.

He adds that the development went in the wrong direction during the presidency of his predecessor Joe Biden from 2021 to 2025.

- The surpluses of these countries have grown during the presidency of sleepy Joe Biden (ed.). We are going to change that, and it will happen quickly.

- One day people will realize that tariffs are a beautiful thing for the United States, the president writes.

The tariffs have caused stocks around the world to fall dramatically in recent days, and this is expected to continue on Monday. Markets in Asia and Australia have experienced big drops after Monday's stock market openings. The president believes that the big falls in both American and global stock markets are a sign that the import tariffs are working.

- Sometimes you have to take medicine to fix something, Trump says according to AFP.

He adds that the tariffs have lured the United States' trading partners to the negotiating table to talk. On Sunday, the White House announced that more than 50 countries have contacted the United States after the import tariffs were announced on Wednesday last week.

- More than 50 countries have contacted the president to begin negotiations, Kevin Hassett, head of the White House Economic Council, told ABC television station.
