Support parties will join hands with the government for more offshore wind

SF and R are happy with the government's proposal for energy islands. But more is needed, they say before negotiations.

In a proposal for the negotiations on a climate action plan, the government has proposed building two energy islands in the North Sea and on Bornholm. By 2030, the two islands must have connected a total of 4 GW of offshore wind.

The supporting parties SF and De Radikale are happy with the proposal for actual energy islands, but they are too small, believe the parties, who predict that they will join forces with the government to get more offshore wind turbines on the negotiating table.

The first negotiations on climate action, which will lead Denmark to the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 70 percent by 2030, will start on Tuesday evening with preparatory meetings at the home of Climate Minister Dan Jørgensen (S).

- Energy islands are a radical idea. But both the Climate Council and the partnership from the energy and utilities sector show that we need a minimum of five gigawatts if we are to reach our 70 percent target. goal, says Ruben Kidde, deputy climate spokesman for the Radical Party.

Two of the three planned offshore wind farms of at least 800 MW each, which were agreed in connection with the Energy Agreement from 2018, are not in the government's proposal. They have been replaced by the two energy islands. The government's plan is still for the Thor offshore wind farm to be built in the North Sea.

The Radical Party wants to move forward

The Radical Party wants to move forward at least one of the planned offshore wind farms in order to get started establishing more wind energy more quickly.

Work on the first park Thor began last year and can be put into operation in 2024 at the earliest. After that, the next parks are planned to come in two years' time and thus be put into operation in 2026 and 2028 respectively. SF wants both parks to be brought forward, while energy islands are being built.

- In SF, we want the already planned offshore wind farms, which are already in the energy agreement, to be brought forward, while the 4 GW energy islands that the government has presented are being built, says the party's climate spokesperson Signe Munk.

- The government is making a postponement, and we want an advance. We believe that it is too risky to put more offshore wind into operation later, she says.
