Looking for electricians: The bottleneck is that we don't have enough teachers

Skive College is looking for teachers for students in the energy industry, and it's difficult, because there is a huge demand for professionals from the industry. But those who become teachers don't leave their jobs. There are several advantages.

Things are going well at Skive College, because there are programs in the energy industry that are attracting students to such an extent.

- We are seeing an increase in student numbers because the offshore industry and the wind industry are attracting students. This applies both at home and abroad, says Tonny Breiner, who is the education manager within the electrician and supply area at Skive College.

However, these are not the only areas where something is happening.

- We are under pressure on all parameters. It is on the supply and electrician part in addition to the wind industry, he explains and elaborates:

- Our utility companies, such as N1 and Trefor, are also really lacking people.

Although the application for Skive College's programs is a good thing, it also creates a shortage at the educational institution.

- Right now the bottleneck is that we don't have enough electricians. I've gathered 14 teachers, and now we need more. We're looking wildly, says the head of education honestly.

But there are requirements for future teachers.

- It's about getting people with experience from the utility and wind industries. It's really a problem when there's plenty of work to be had in the industry, where there's no unemployment. And at the same time there are high salaries in the industry, explains Tonny Breiner.

The professionals are not leaving the teaching world again

But even though Tonny Breiner has to fight to bring in the right people as teachers, they're not leaving teaching again for a higher salary.

- People don't slip away, and we have top-qualified teachers, says Tonny Breiner, who also makes the advantages of the job clear:

- It's a great joy to work with young people and see them develop. At the same time, you're not as physically stressed as you are out in the industry, where there's cold, wind and rain.

At the same time, he also makes it very clear that it's not a retreat job.

- It's a job with good working conditions and development opportunities at Skive College, he explains.

Ring: We'll take it from there

Skive College takes the difficult recruitment through various channels.

- We're trying social media and job postings, says Tonny Breiner, who is open to talking to professionals from the electrical industry:

- Just try calling and saying hello. Everyone is welcome, and we'll take it from there.
