Danish Business praises Energinet for opening up to external players – but calls for quick action

Agreement between Energinet, Danish Business and industry players opens the way for third parties to be responsible for parts of the expansion of the transmission grid, while Danish Business is pushing for rapid implementation towards concrete models in April 2026.

Energinet has entered into an agreement with the Danish Chamber of Commerce and a number of players in the energy industry to investigate new models where private third parties can be responsible for parts of the expansion of the transmission grid.

In concrete terms, the agreement will mean that the parties will come up with specific models by April 2026 that can make it possible for private companies to take over tasks such as preparing areas and parts of the construction work.

Danish Chamber of Commerce has been calling for this opportunity since 2024 and calls the agreement an important step - but emphasizes that pace and concrete action are now crucial. According to the business organization, it can contribute to faster and more efficient expansion of the electricity grid, which is necessary to meet companies' needs for access to electricity.

- Danish companies are ready to invest billions in renewable energy. What is unfortunately all too often missing is access to the grid. Therefore, it is a major step forward that Energinet is now opening the door for third parties to help with the grid expansion. In the Danish Business Federation, we have been working for this solution since 2024, so we are very pleased that Energinet is now taking it up, says Ulrich Bang, deputy director of the Danish Business Federation, in a statement.

Energinet's initiative builds on the new prioritization model for grid connection, which was launched last week. The model does away with the first-come, first-served principle and instead gives priority to the most mature projects. The Danish Business Federation believes that this is an important step, but at the same time calls for the prioritization to also take into account socio-economic value, so that the projects that benefit Denmark the most come first.

- Energinet deserves praise for taking two big steps in just two weeks. First, a prioritization model that gives the most mature projects the green light. Now, an initiative that examines how private companies can accelerate grid expansion. The direction is absolutely right. Now we just have to move forward quickly and do it concretely, says Ulrich Bang.
