NRGi has received approval to build a new energy park in the Tuekær area in Aalborg Municipality. The plant will consist of 15 wind turbines and around 80 hectares of solar cells and will have a total capacity of 67.5 MW from wind and 91 MWp from solar. Annual production is expected to be approximately 275,000 MWh, equivalent to the electricity consumption of 66,000 households. NRGi announced this in a press release.

NRGi Renewables, which is behind the project, sees the approval as an important step in the expansion of land-based renewable energy.

The announcement of the new energy park comes at a time when the expansion of renewable energy on land has almost come to a standstill. According to the industry organization Green Power Denmark, only 12 new onshore wind turbines were installed in Denmark in 2024, and only one was installed the year before. And that perspective does not make the realization of the project any less important, says NRGI Renewables.

- Society is in the midst of a comprehensive and necessary electrification, and this requires that we increase the production of green energy and accelerate the expansion of cost-effective land-based renewable energy plants even more, says Jakob Bundgaard, CEO of NRGi Renewables.

In addition to turbines and solar cells, the energy park will also consist of a battery system that will store surplus power and ensure a more stable use of the energy. NRGi Renewables is also working with the Danish Armed Forces on a new radar at Aalborg Air Station that will prevent the wind turbines from affecting air traffic.

The plant is expected to be operational around the turn of the year 2027/28.
