SILKEBORG: The politicians in Silkeborg City Council have agreed that a new board of directors should be appointed in Silkeborg Forsyning instead of the current one, where both the chairman, deputy chairman and two other members are city council politicians. The municipality informs this on its website.
The background is two cases: firstly the so-called heating case, where Silkeborg Varme has lost 70 million. DKK on an electricity sales contract, partly a cartel case, where the company, together with a number of other Jutland companies, is being investigated by the Danish Competition and Consumer Authority for a possible breach of competition law by having coordinated prices.
"The parties on the City Council agree that it is best for Silkeborg Forsyning that the current board resigns while the two cases are handled and investigated by the authorities," the municipality informs.
Vice-Chairman in the lead
Earlier this week, the company's vice-chairman, Lars Hedegaard (independent) announced that he would resign.
- These should be positions that are filled based on competencies and not as part of a political constitution where the positions are not filled based on competencies. (...) Therefore, I am also taking the consequences and resigning from the position. It is the right thing to do, because not least the case about the 70 million kroner shows that it must be extremely competent people who run such a company, he tells Midtjyllands Avis.
- It is not appropriate for politicians to make up half of the board. I suggest that in the future two board members are appointed from the political level, he adds.
And the other politicians agree that they should resign, at least initially. In addition to Lars Hedegaard, the board includes chairman Søren Kristensen (S), Martin Jakobsen (K) and Kathrine Frøhlich (SF). Mayor Helle Gade (S) is currently discussing the management task with the people who are expected to join the new board at the general meeting on May 30, the municipality informs.
