Siemens Gamesa's faulty turbines were not sufficiently tested

8. AUG 2023 9.26

Siemens Gamesa's parent company Siemens Energy announced on Monday that it had lowered its expectations for the 2022/23 financial year to a net loss of DKK 33.6 billion. The loss is caused, among other things, by problems in the wind turbine platforms 4.X and 5.X, which are estimated to cost up to DKK 11.9 billion.

However, the problems with the turbine types, which include quality problems with rotor blades and suspensions as well as ball bearings in some of the above-mentioned turbine types, could possibly have been avoided.

In its efforts to get new products to market as quickly as possible, Siemens Gamesa ended up selling turbines that had not been sufficiently tested. This is recognized by the wind turbine manufacturer's CEO, Jochen Eickholt, writes the industry media Recharge News.
