Ørsted has selected Siemens Gamesa to supply the wind turbines for its two North Sea projects, Borkum Riffgrund 3 and Gode Wind 3, Siemens Gamesa announced in a press release.
The two wind farms will have a capacity of 900 MW and 242 MW, respectively, and will be equipped with Siemens Gamesa's upgraded SG 11.0-200 DD wind turbines, which have a wingspan of 200 meters. The agreement will also include a five-year service and maintenance agreement.
The agreement has not yet been signed, as the final design and investment plans as well as the final green light from the German authorities are still awaited.
- We look forward to once again introducing new wind turbine technology to the market, says Martin Neubert, Executive Vice President and CEO of Ørsted Offshore.
With its 900 MW, Riffgrund 3 is set to become the largest offshore wind farm in German waters. And it is precisely the ever-larger wind turbines and projects that are the key to ensuring that offshore wind energy becomes cheaper than fossil alternatives, says Martin Neubert in the press release.
The final number of wind turbines is still undecided. Ørsted expects the installation of Gode Wind 3 to begin in 2023 and will be completed in 2024, while Borkum Riffgrund is expected to begin in 2024 and be completed in 2025.
