A broad majority in the Danish Parliament consisting of the government, the Liberal Party, the Danish People's Party, the Socialist People's Party, the Radical Left, the Conservative People's Party and the Liberal Alliance have agreed on an agreement that aims to create good framework conditions that can secure Denmark's position in wind energy.
The hope with the agreement is, among other things, to maintain jobs outside the large cities. 82 percent of employees in the wind industry are employed outside the Capital Region, writes the Ministry of the Interior and Housing in a press release.
- The wind industry is central to growth and development throughout Denmark. Not least for jobs outside our large cities. I am therefore pleased that a broad political agreement has now been reached that supports Denmark's strong position within advanced production of wind technology, says Minister of the Interior and Housing Kaare Dybvad Bek.
Three concrete initiatives
Specifically, the parties have agreed on three concrete initiatives that will ensure that experimental turbines can be tested in the best possible way in Denmark.
First, work will be initiated on an adaptation of the Høvsøre Test Center to enable testing of higher prototype turbines. In addition, a general service check of rental and allocation terms at the national test centers for large wind turbines at Høvsøre and Østerild will be carried out with a view to optimizing access to test sites, prices, flexibility, etc.
Last but not least, it has been agreed to initiate a screening of areas with a view to finding suitable areas for testing so-called series 0 turbines outside the national test centers.
- The green transition requires product development of new turbines. Suitable locations for test turbines must be found - this is a task that we as a society must take on, says Karsten Filsø (SF), who is the energy and supply spokesman.
The agreement has been entered into on the basis of a comprehensive analysis of the framework conditions for testing and demonstrating wind turbines in Denmark. The analysis has been prepared on the basis of dialogue with the wind industry.
Current testing conditions do not meet the needs of the industry
The initiative for taller turbines at the Høvsøre Test Center requires a thorough impact assessment of the impact on the environment, including both the local nature and the people who are neighbors of the test center.
The neighbors who are expected to be directly affected have been informed by the Danish Housing and Planning Agency, and will be invited to a citizens' meeting, where it will be possible to ask questions and make suggestions.
It is a difficult task to enable testing of taller wind turbines. The studies are, however, initiated by the wind industry, which has clearly indicated that the current testing conditions do not meet the industry's needs.
Access to modern testing facilities close to the manufacturers' development departments in Denmark is considered an essential prerequisite for increasing the industry's competitiveness.
- With agreements like this, we continue to develop technology that maintains our position in the world class of countries that are best at harvesting the power of the wind. The world lacks renewable energy in the fight against climate change, and Denmark plays a key role in being able to export technology and green electricity. This agreement contributes to this, says Climate Minister Dan Jørgensen.
