Vestas will build the world's largest and most powerful wind turbine in Østerild. Vestas plans to set up a prototype of its new flagship wind turbine V236-15.0 MW in the national test center in West Jutland. The turbine will be 280 meters high and will have an annual production of 80 GWh, both of which are records, Vestas said in a press release.

- Colleagues across Vestas have worked hard and collaborated closely to ensure the rapid development and assembly of the ??V236-15.0 MW prototype. This announcement is an important step forward for Vestas and our customers. Having the prototype turbine erected will emphasize how the V236-15.0 MW will raise the bar in terms of technological innovation, industrialization and scale in the wind energy industry, says Anders Nielsen, Chief Technology Officer at Vestas.

The prototype turbine will be installed on land in the test center to collect data so that the turbine can achieve certification. It will be installed in the second half of 2022, and the goal is that the first electricity will be produced by the turbine in the fourth quarter of 2022. The tests are being carried out with a view to the turbine being ready for series production in 2024.

The wind turbine was officially presented by Vestas in February this year. The first order has already been placed for the turbine. Thus, Vestas with the V236-15.0 turbine was selected in July as the preferred supplier for the 900 MW He Dreiht project, which is to be built in the German part of the North Sea in 2025.
