It seems that the public does not know how much the employees of Norlys have received in bonuses after the energy group's record year in 2022. According to Norlys CEO Niels Duedahl, however, this is an "almost" flat development compared to the previous year. He says this after the group presented its annual accounts on Friday. Last year, its profit increased eightfold to 4.2 billion. DKK.
- If you correct for the number of employees, there is almost a flat development in the payment of bonuses compared to previously, he says.
The employees of the Norlys group all have a bonus with a ceiling. In this way, you ensure that it does not run away, the message is.
Question: How much has been specifically paid out after 2022 compared to the previous year?
- I cannot put a specific figure on it. We do not publish our bonuses, it says.
The director understands the dilemma that people have had difficulty paying their energy bills in the past year, and that the bonus theme at the same time exists in the energy industry.
- It is clear that there must be balance and that there must be fairness in the payment of bonuses to employees. But for us, bonuses are part of the terms of employment, so we have a contractual obligation, he says.
Huge bonuses in Energi Danmark have led to layoffs
The discussion about bonuses for employees in energy companies arose after the media outlet Finans began uncovering a number of cases about bonuses in the triple-digit million range in the industry.
This led the energy trading company Energi Danmark, owned by the energy companies Andel and NRGI, to terminate three employees who were just getting sky-high bonuses.
The Norlys group also had a small group of employees in a subsidiary with bonus schemes without a ceiling. This was put to an end in early autumn, says Niels Duedahl.
