The 800,000 cooperative members in the energy group Norlys can expect to receive discounts worth one billion kroner in 2023. This was announced by the group's CEO, Niels Duedahl, after Norlys presented a record-high pre-tax profit of 4.2 billion kroner on Friday.

- We paid out 650 million kroner last year, and this year the goal is to be around one billion kroner, he says.

- But the primary part of our profit must be invested in the green transition.

He explains that with an investment of one billion kroner, Norlys will be able to ensure that up to 400,000 households in the future can receive green energy that is cheaper.

- So we are trying to find a balance where the cooperative members get something, but where we also want to secure the future - and thus lower energy prices. And investments in the future in particular have been supported by our board of representatives.

Will invest in electricity grid, solar and wind

Looking forward to 2030, Norlys has an investment budget of 100 billion DKK, which will go to the green agenda. 20 billion DKK will be invested in a comprehensive electricity grid in Denmark. In addition, Norlys will also invest a significant amount of billions in charging stations for electric cars.

However, the largest part of the budget will go to the spread of solar and wind energy - both in Denmark and abroad, says the director.

- If we are to solve the problem of high energy prices, we must do away with the use of energy from fossil fuels such as coal and gas.

The announcement comes after Norlys presented its annual accounts for 2022 on Friday morning. The group earned 4.2 billion DKK last year. This is eight times as much as the year before.

The high profit is particularly a result of large revenues in the energy trading company Norlys Energy Trading, of which the group owns 51 percent.

The profit is mainly sourced outside the country's borders, and therefore it has not affected customers' energy prices, Norlys assures in the accounts.
